in Wakefield as the home of a new free exhibition which marries art and fashion. Disobedient Bodies (which runs until 18th June), explores the human form in fashion, art and design.
By placing notable sculptures alongside wearable art, Anderson aims to leave you with more questions than answers about these contrasting pieces. Featuring sculptures of the human form by the likes of Louise Bourgeois, Jean Arp, Henry Moore, Barbara Hepworth and Lynn Chadwick juxtaposed with fashion pieces by top designers such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Issey Miyake, Rei Kawakubo and Christian Dior. The exhibition also features notable craft and design objects, and investigates how human form has been reconceived by artists and designers since 1950.
The exhibition came about as a result of the designer's passion for modern art and delves deeper into the underlying questions of gender posed by his collections since he began his design career. He established his label in 2008, after attending London College of Fashion. At first he designed menswear, however in 2010 he launched a womenswear capsule collection and the rest is history. He is also the Creative Director of Loewe, a Spanish luxury clothing and accessories brand. He won both Womenswear and Menswear designer of the year at the 2015 British Fashion Awards.
Anderson has collaborated with 6a Architects to present the exhibition.
