Current emotional state - trying not to cry in restaurants became I'm so grateful to be eating out again! After checking out the Jesmond Beach Box on Saturday, my gang walked a short distance to Geisha on Sandyford Road in search of more culinary delights. Here you can enjoy Pan-Asian food from morning until night (from 9am to 9.30pm), for now in the pretty, heated area at the front of the restaurant.
One of the first things I saw were customers enjoying very enticing cocktails, so we decided to try the Pina Coladas (transported to a beach), the Magic Martinis (made from butterfly pea infused vodka, which comes with a pipette of magic flavour solution which changes its colour from blue to like a marbled purple - science). We had a round of Espresso Martinis which were beautifully decorated and divine (it's not easy to make a good one). Their speciality cocktails and Perfect Serves make good use of Japanese spirits, from Roku gin, to Suntory Toki Whiskey and Haku Japanese Rice Vodka (I will definitely give these a try when I go back).
The food menu is quite extensive so I liked the fact that there were many little signs hanging down from the roof area which let customers know about their specials - chicken katsu burger, roast duck pancakes, bao buns, dim sum and ramen. I'd been having a craving for ribs so I went with the salt and chilli ribs (£9) which were absolutely delicious (my friend couldn't finish his so I insisted on getting them boxed up so I could nab one later on). My friends tried the katsu burger (£12 complete with a black brioche bun) and Singapore vermicelli (£13) and were not disappointed.
On the menu you'll find dim sum, Bao buns, salads, noodles/rice dishes, speciality burgers, curries, dishes from the Japanese (Robata grill), roast duck pancakes, ramen, salt and chilli dishes, dishes from the charcoal oven (plus Asian greens and sides). You can also choose from a selection of yummy desserts including mocha, deep fried sweet buns and cheesecake.
Bored of cereal? You can also get an Asian inspired breakfast - pancakes, sweet and savoury dim sum, plus speciality and standard coffees.
Geisha will open for indoor dining on May 17th, and also provides a delivery service.
