London Fashion Week AW 2015 Key Trends

I may be biased but LFW for me is always a masterclass in boldness, creativity and pushing the fashion envelope. There was a bigger then ever emphasis on digital, with many events harnessing the full power of current technology. Jean Pierre Braganza teamed up with River Island and Google to present a fully immersive 360 degree fashion experience using Google Cardboard technology. There was the Fashion Film event, a BFI funded initiative which included films from Gareth Pugh, House of Holland and Mr Braganza. There was definitely an international flavour with the International Fashion Showcase, which featured over 100 emerging designers from twenty five countries around the world.

Here are the key trends from LFW AW 2015…

Animal Print

It never really goes away as a trend, there’s always the odd touch of it here and there even if it isn’t fully in the spotlight. There were tiger and leopard prints, as well as prints including big cats! Matthew Williamson clashed leopard print with colourful graphic prints for added impact, whilst Vivienne Westwood rocked leopard print with clashing vertical stripes. J.W Anderson has to be mentioned for featuring big cat appliques. Burberry Prorsum teamed leopard print jackets with bags for added impact. Let out your inner tiger!

Fringe Benefits

Already a key trend at New York Fashion Week, there was no stopping fringing at LFW. From a bohemian hippie vibe to glamorous evening wear, a little bit of fringe is suitable for every occasion. Julien McDonald and Issa paraded stunning evening looks, whilst it was all over the Burberry show, from suede fringed skirts to a new take on their now famous blanket capes and coats. Matthew Williamson’s fringed neon yellow boots were a triumph. 

Faux Fur

Sometimes you think designers must get together and have a natter about what they’re planning for the next season, as fur was everywhere yet again. There was a fun and playful vibe to LFW however, with faux fur specialists Shrimps absolutely nailing coats, scarfs and even fur trimmed boots. Roksanda showed some stunning multicoloured filets, bags and collars, and House of Holland was typically colourful with show stopping shearling creations.

Leather

Leather, like denim is always a good idea, and for AW 2015 designers played around with new ideas with exciting results. No stone was left unturned with trousers, A-line dressers, quilted jackets   and cute top and skirt combos all over the catwalks. The A-line mini dress at Giles as worn by Kendall Jenner was a gothic delight, and Topshop Unique managed to do a slouchy leather trouser which were a refreshing change. Felder Felder also did a stunning laser cut leather mini dress paired with black lace. 

Red Devil

Are you ready to be bold? Designers seem to think so, with deep scarlets and crimsons making a strong statement at many shows. Vivienne Westwood Red Label teamed up a flowing dress and shirt tied over it in different shades of red, and Emilia Wickstead’s tomato red ball gown with matching collar ribbon was in-you-face elegance personified.
