Are you ready to party in the streets of Newcastle? I hope so, because Vamos! festival is back in three weeks’ time, celebrating its `bigger and brighter than ever! If you’re in the town centre on Saturday June 6th, be prepared to be caught up in the infectious spirit of Mardi Gras, with hundreds of carnival dancers, school kids and musicians dancing to the funky Latin beats.
The organisers, Creative Producer Sara Lourenco, Co-Director Nik Barrera and lead musician Hannabiell Sanders would love as many people as possible to be involved – there’s a free session on May 27th at Dance City so that you can practice your moves! The parade has a Mexican theme this year, so don your best Pinata chic and your most colourful poncho! Local school children have been working on the dance routine for weeks, taking part in workshops with professional dancers and musicians. The parade starts on Northumberland Street on June 6th at 12pm.
This year a vast array of talent will be involved in the Parade - guest artist Mariana Pinho (Selva), Yilis del Carmen Suriel, Yuvel Soria, Super Brass Troupe, The Creative Seed, Jack Drum, Tenth Avenue, WeWag and Iota Arts, all curated by Sara Lourenco.
Vamos 10! is pulling out all the stops to ensure a festival to remember! Other exciting events include Chocolate Noche – a pop up chocolate restaurant with Newcastle College, the ever popular Mexican Wrestling at the Toffee Factory, a fun-filled Daytime Picnic with Zumba/Salsa classes and live entertainment, the ever-popular Beach Party at Crusoes in Tynemouth and international star Kid Creole and the Coconuts headlining at the Summer Evening Party.
