One of the bonuses of my sister
living in Bethnal Green is that I get to check out Shoreditch shops and Brick
Lane market regularly. A while back I was really happy to discover the Tatty Devine store on Brick Lane. It’s a little bit of a hidden gem and well worth a
trip. You can see the full range of their world famous Perspex jewellery on
display as well as pieces being made in the workshop at the back.
My eye was immediately caught by
the new Autumn Winter collection, which is inspired by 80s pop culture and
postmodernism. I’m a big fan of OTT colourful accessories, massive earrings and
pop art, so this is right up my street. The range features over thirty pieces,
including a show stopping Eighties phone necklace – candyfloss pink and yellow
with hand inked keys, as well as some amazing statement necklaces, my
favourites being the Limited Edition Still Life Necklace (featuring everyday
household objects such as a wine bottle, an iron and a newspaper) and the Magazine
Collage Statement Necklace which features bold advertising imagery such as lipsticks,
shoes and watches.
The Memphis Group is a big inspiration
behind a number of pieces. An Italian design collective founded in Milan in
1981, they designed Postmodern furniture, fabrics, ceramics and glass until
1987 (they drew inspiration from Art Deco and Pop Art). The Memphis pieces feature
unconventional and colourful asymmetric shapes; the Crazy Paving pieces
make an impact with angular shapes inspired by terrazzo tiles. The Smashed
Screen necklace replicates a shattered retro television screen, whilst everyday
household objects such as irons and plant pots are transformed into wearable
art, studded with tiny Swarovski crystals.

I personally am loving the kitsch
Eighties Cigarette pieces and the graphic earrings which I think I’ll wear to
London Fashion Week. It’s definitely original and playful, and you’ll
certainly be the object of photographers affections wearing these pieces at
LFW.

Move quickly as many of these
pieces are limited to a run of 50.
